1. Who We Are & What This Policy Covers

MedMicroMaps Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") operates Microbe XR, an immersive science education experience available on the Meta Quest platform. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights.

Microbe XR is designed for players ages 13+ and the families and educators who support them. We take data privacy seriously, especially when young learners are involved.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to deliver a great science learning experience. Here is exactly what we collect:

 

2.1 Meta Horizon User Data (from Meta's Platform)

  • User ID (Meta-assigned anonymous identifier) — used solely to display your username during multiplayer sessions

  • Username / Display Name — shown to other players in closed multiplayer environments

 

2.2 In-App Learning & Game Progress Data

  • Quiz Performance Scores — answers, scores, and accuracy percentages from in-game microbiology quizzes

  • Level Completion Status — which levels have been passed or attempted

  • Shooting / Gameplay Scores — scores earned during interactive gameplay challenges

This data is collected to preserve your learning history and enable friendly competition in closed multiplayer environments (such as a classroom group).

2.3 Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do NOT collect real names, email addresses, or contact information

  • We do NOT collect biometric data, facial expressions, gaze data, or body/hand tracking beyond standard Meta Quest device functions

  • We do NOT collect Advertising IDs — Microbe XR displays no advertisements

  • We do NOT collect payment or financial information

We do NOT collect location data beyond country/region for language settings

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect only for the following permitted purposes, consistent with Meta's Developer Data Use Policy Section 3:

 

  • Experience Delivery: Running and maintaining Microbe XR

  • Progress Preservation: Saving your quiz scores, level progress, and gameplay achievements so your learning journey continues where you left off

  • Multiplayer Competition: Displaying usernames on leaderboards within closed, educator-controlled multiplayer groups only

  • Product Improvement: Generating anonymized, aggregated insights to improve game content, quiz difficulty, and educational value — no individual user is identifiable from this analysis

  • Legal Compliance: Meeting any legally required data obligations

 

We do NOT use your data for advertising, marketing to third parties, user profiling, surveillance, or any purpose not listed above.

4. How We Share Your Data

We believe your data belongs to you. Here's our simple sharing policy:

 

  • We do NOT sell, rent, license, or lend User Data to any third party

  • We may share data with Service Providers (e.g., AWS cloud hosting) who are contractually bound to use it only on our behalf, subject to the same restrictions in this Policy

  • All Service Providers are prohibited from using your data for their own purposes

  • We may disclose data if required by law or court order and only to the extent legally required

  • Multiplayer leaderboard data is visible only within your closed group (e.g., a classroom) — never publicly

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep your data only as long as it's needed to provide the Microbe XR experience:

 

  • Progress data (quiz scores, levels, gameplay scores) is retained while your account is active

  • You may request deletion of your data at any time — see Section 8 below

  • When you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete your data without undue delay

  • We will delete data when it is no longer necessary to provide the app experience

  • Any anonymized/aggregated analytics data that cannot be linked to you may be retained for product improvement

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect your data:

 

  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest

  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only

  • We conduct regular security reviews

  • We will notify Meta promptly if we become aware of any unauthorized access or data incident

  • We maintain a vulnerability reporting channel — please contact us at drjane@medmicromaps.com to report any security concerns

7. Minors' Privacy

Microbe XR is designed for use by players ages 13+, typically in supervised educational environments under teacher or parent guidance.

 

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent through the Meta platform account framework

  • Microbe XR does not contain advertising, in-app purchases, or social features outside of educator-controlled multiplayer groups

  • Parents and guardians may contact us at drjane@medmicromaps.com to request review or deletion of any data associated with a minor's account

  • We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and all other applicable child data protection laws

8. Your Rights & How to Exercise Them

You have the right to know, access, correct, and delete your data. Here's how:

 

  • Email us at drjane@medmicromaps.com with the subject line "Data Request"

  • We will respond within 30 days

  • You may request: access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, or complete deletion of your data

  • You may also request a list of any Service Providers with whom your data has been shared

These rights are available to all users regardless of location, and we comply with applicable privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, and other regional data protection regulations.

9. International Data Transfers

Microbe XR is operated by MedMicroMaps Inc., based in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US.

 

  • For users in the European Economic Area (EEA): transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (Module One, controller-to-controller) as required by Meta's Developer Data Use Policy Section 10

  • For users in the United Kingdom: transfers comply with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum (UK Addendum)

  • We implement appropriate safeguards for all international data transfers consistent with applicable law

10. Meta Platform Compliance

Microbe XR is built on the Meta Horizon platform. We comply fully with Meta's Developer Data Use Policy, including:

 

  • We access only the Meta Horizon User Data necessary to display usernames for multiplayer

  • We do not combine Meta Horizon User Data with Device User Data or third-party data

  • We do not use Advertising IDs — Microbe XR is ad-free

  • We submit to Meta's annual Data Use Checkup certification process

  • We cooperate with Meta's content review, monitoring, and audit rights as described in Meta's Policy Section 7

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:

 

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document

  • For material changes, we will provide notice through the app or via Meta's platform notification systems

  • Continued use of Microbe XR after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy
