Imagine stepping into a world where the lines between traditional medicine and technology vanish, think Star Trek medical deck!. This was the vibrant atmosphere at NextMed Health 2025 in San Diego, where MedMicroMaps, showcased our groundbreaking Quest VR app. The Innovation Lab was held in the beautiful Crown Room at Hotel Coronado, representing 60 selected innovative startups. The event attracted innovators and curious minds eager to experience the future of medicine.
Being chosen to showcase our Unity-based educational VR app felt surreal, and it feels like all our hard work and long nights are paying off. We are at the crest of the XR-AI Revolution and I loved being the same room with people who share our vision.

Unveiling the Experience
As the event kicked off, attendees flocked to our booth, always curious about our mascot, Phage.i an AI-trained bacteriophage. As a life-time microbiology educator, I was delighted to see the kids trying the app.
An 8 year-old kid wore the headset for 45 minutes until the headset ran out of charge!
We are building the VR experience for GenZ, who will be our future scientists, physicians, nurses and inventors. With our app launching soon on the Meta Horizons store this May, we were ready to provide attendees with an unforgettable experience that could change their views on medicine.
Our Quest VR app uniquely combines gamified learning and immersive experiences in a microscopic world. Upon wearing the headset, users were transported into a virtual world where they could explore play, battle and talk with viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. We are revolutionizing medical education!
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees expressed excitement about how our app could redefine medical training. For instance, one participant highlighted a study showing that immersive learning methods can boost retention rates by 75%. Hearing their responses strengthened my belief in the transformative power of VR technology.
Bridging the Gap in Health Sciences Education
A major challenge in medical education is providing effective tools to improve engagement and retention, especially for an invisible subject. Traditional methods relying on textbooks, PPT slides and multiple choice test often fail to engage students fully. Our Quest VR app changes that, enabling visual and hands-on users to learn at their own pace while immersing themselves in a 3D, engaging environment designed for exploration.
This app bridges the gap between conventional learning and immersive education. It helps demystify complex concepts, turning them into engaging and understandable experiences.
The app's real-world simulations empower users to practice skills and make decisions in a safe context. Feedback we received at NextMed Health 2025 underscored the potential of virtual reality as a transformative teaching tool in medicine.
Why VR in Medicine is a Game Changer
Integrating VR into life science education isn't just innovative; it changes how we approach learning. As a virtual reality enthusiast, I recognize the value of creating experiences that feel realistic and interactive by bringing the microbes from a page in book to colorful 3D assets the size of basketballs.
Attendees discussed how VR could help reduce anxiety during procedures, bolster confidence in new healthcare professionals, and improve patient interactions. Studies show that learning through immersive experiences can increase retention rates, critical in a field where precision is essential.
VR allows learners to make mistakes in a controlled environment without real-world consequences. This unique feature gives individuals the freedom to grow in their roles and encourages advancements in medicine.
Looking Ahead
Armed with feedback from the event and fueled by audience enthusiasm, we are more excited than ever about our app's launch this May in Meta Horizon & ArboXR stores. Engaging with attendees at NextMed Health 2025 revealed a strong need for resources suited to the dynamic world of medicine. Our mission is to lead the way by providing an innovative platform that educates and captivates.
As a proud member of Team MedMicroMaps, I envision a future where our Quest VR app becomes a staple in sciene education for all ages. We aim to ignite curiosity among future healthcare professionals and biomedical scientists while effectively bridging the gap between theory and practical knowledge.
If you're excited, make sure to keep an eye out for our launch on the Meta Horizons store.
Stay tuned, wear your headsets, and prepare for an immersive adventure into the world of microscopic science like never before!
